152mm f/8, 92x + [OIII], Bortle 4, SQM-L 21.1
Only a short attempt without an detailed finder chart. I used 66x, 92x and 133x each with [OIII] filter.
FAILED

NGC 2438 (PN)

Image source: DSS II (red) - 5'×5'
Name: NGC2438, PK231+4.2, H4.39
Type: PN
Constellation: Pup
Coordinates: 07h41m50.51s / -14°44'07.70"
Brightness / Size: 10m.8 / 1.3'×1.3'

120mm f/5, 40x + [OIII], Bortle 4, SQM-L 21.1
Conditions in the target region: SQM-L 20.3
At 40x without filter just a faint, roundish brightening with averted vision. At 75x without filter well visible with averted vision. At 40x with [OIII] filter the nebula appears bright, round, evenly bright and is visible with direct vision.

EASY
152mm f/8, 30x + [OIII], Bortle 4, SQM-L 21.1
Without filter the nebula is visible only as a faint brightening. With [OIII] filter the nebula becomes very prominent. Round, uniformly bright, relatively large.

EASY
8" f/6, 171x, Bortle 4+, NELM 6m.0+, SQM-L 21.1
Conditions in the target region: NELM 5m0+, SQM-L 20.2
At 37x visible with averted vision as rather faint, round, small nebula. At 100x evident, round, evenly bright. At 100x with [OIII] filter partly lemon-shaped, center appeared somewhat darker (ring), well perceptible with direct vision. Beautifully embedded in the prominent, star rich cluster M46!

100mm f/6.4, 49x + [OIII], SQM-L 21.3
Conditions in the target region: SQM-L 20.5

NGC 2440 (PN)

../images/dss/dss2red_074154.91_-181229.70_5_web.jpg
Image source: DSS II (red) - 5'×5'
Name: NGC2440, PK234+2.1, H4.64
Type: PN
Constellation: Pup
Coordinates: 07h41m54.91s / -18°12'29.70"
Brightness / Size: 9m.4 / 1.2'×0.7'
Robert Zebahl
120mm f/5, 40x, Bortle 4, SQM-L 21.0
Conditions in the target region: SQM-L 20.0
At 18x stellar and well visible with averted vision, at 40x without filter almost stellar. At 40x with [OIII] filter non-stellar, but still very compact. At 75x the nebula appeared as very small, round, evenly bright disc.

EASY
René Merting
100mm f/6.4, 160x, SQM-L 21.3
Conditions in the target region: SQM-L 20.0
