At 28x bright, slightly oval. The fairly compact, almost stellar center is visible with averted vision. Otherwise the galaxy appears rather evenly bright. At 86x the center is more evident and appeared slightly elongated, whereas the very compact nucleus is most apparent.

At 22x striking, bright, slightly oval. The brighter, compact center is visible with averted vision. At 129x the dust lane was also well visible to the northeast of the center with averted vision.

At 37x very bright, nearly stellar core with oval halo. Orientation NW-SE. At 100x bright, stellar core. Galaxy seems mottled arround the core. At 171x northeast of the core an obvious, slightly curved dark area (= black eye).

bei 20x ist die Galaxie gut sichtbar innerhalb eines auffälligen Sterntrapezes - ihre Helligkeit steigt zur Mitte hin an - bei 32x wirkt M 64 leicht elongiert, das Zentrum scheint leicht nach Süden versetzt zu sein - bei 71x zeigt sich eine große helle diffuse Galaxie - unterhalb des Zentrums Richtung Südwest sind Unregelmäßigkeiten wahrnehmbar bzw. dort wirkt sie nicht so homogen
