- Thin Galaxies (Vir) -

Here I will present some quite thin galaxies with an axis ratio of at least 1:5. Nevertheless this value is calculated from the given angular size, so the visual impression can differ.

NGC4437 (GLX)

../dss/dss2red_123245.59_+000654.14_11_web.jpg
Image source: DSS II (red) - 11×11'
Name: NGC4437, NGC4517, UGC7694, H4.5
Type: GLX
Constellation: Vir
Coordinates: 12h32m45.59s / +00°06'54.14"
Brightness / Size: 11m2 / 10.2x1.7'
120mm f/5, 75x, Bortle 6, NELM 5.1+, SQM-L 19.4
Slightly elongated, getting a bit brighter toward the middle. Fairly well seen with averted vision.

MODERATE
8" f/6, 100x, Bortle 4, SQM-L 21.1
SQM-L 20.6: Quite easily seen nearby a moderately bright star. Very elongated, tapering endings, somewhat broadening toward the middle. Center appeared slightly brighter, otherwise rather evenly bright.

NGC4762 (GLX)

../dss/dss2blue_125256.05_+111350.88_9_web.jpg
Image source: DSS II (blue) - 9×9'
Name: NGC4762, UGC8016, H2.75
Group: Virgo-Cluster
Type: GLX
Constellation: Vir
Coordinates: 12h52m56.05s / +11°13'50.88"
Brightness / Size: 10m1 / 8.7x1.7'
4.5" f/8, 60x, Bortle 6, NELM 5.3, SQM-L 19.7
At 60x thin, very elongated, evenly bright. Also visible at 28x as faint brightening.

MODERATE
8" f/6, 37x, Bortle 4, SQM-L 21.1
SQM-L 20.8: Already well visible at 37x. At 80x elongated, very thin with high surface brightness. Core appeared almost stellar. At 150x about 3 arcminutes of size.
