M31 (GLX)

DSS
© DSS II (red) - 80×80'
Name: M31, NGC224, UGC454, Andromeda Galaxy
Group: Local Group

Easily visible with direct vision, evident, brighter core, obviously elongated.

EASY
4.5" f/8, 28x, Bortle 3, NELM 6.4
Very bright, round core, surrounded by a likewise bright, oval halo. The fainter outer regions can followed over 2°, if the conditions are good. With averted vision west of the core 2 dust lanes are prominent, nearly parallel and slightly curved.

Relatively well seen with direct vision, but nearly stellar.

EASY
80mm f/6.25, 25x, Bortle 6

M33 (GLX)

DSS
© DSS I - 69×69'
Name: M33, NGC598, UGC1117, H5.17, Triangulum Galaxy, Pinwheel Galaxy

Coordinates: 01h33m50.90s / +30°39'35.79"
Brightness / Size: v5.7 mag / 68.7x41.6'
naked eye, Bortle 3, NELM 6.4
With good transparency and averted vision almost obvious, if you are little expierenced. M33 was seen as a relatively small, diffuse brightening.

MODERATE
naked eye, Bortle 4-, SQM-L 20.8
Highly depends on the actual conditions. With averted vision seen as very faint brightening.

DIFFICULT
B 40mm, 8x, Bortle 4, NELM 6.1, SQM-L 21.0
Obvious, oval, diffuse, slightly brighter core.

EASY
80mm f/6.25, 41x, Bortle 4
Large, oval, diffuse with brighter nucleus.

EASY
8" f/6, 37x, Bortle 4
Large, oval, becoming weaker toward the edge. Mottled, tendency of spiral structure. During next visit I will take more time for studying ;)

EASY
8" f/6, 80x, Bortle 3, NELM 6.3+, SQM-L 21.4
Spiral structures very evident! Incredible view. The emission nebula NGC604 was also obvious with direct vision.

UGC5470 (GLX)

DSS
© DSS II (red) - 11×11'
Name: UGC5470, Leo I
Group: Local Group
Type: GLX
Constellation: Leo
Coordinates: 10h08m28.12s / +12°18'23.40"
Brightness / Size: v10.5 mag / 10.7x8.3'
8" f/6, 66x, Bortle 4-, SQM-L 21.0
With averted vision well visible, large, oval, getting a bit brighter toward the middle. In comparison to many other galaxies this one appeared more granulous than diffuse. The bright alpha Leo should be placed outside of field of view. A narrow field eyepieces like an orthoscopic one might be a good choice. At hazy skies alpha Leo could outshine the galaxy and make it difficult or even not visible.
