NGC6946 (GLX)

DSS
© DSS II (blue) - 12×12'
Name: NGC6946, UGC11597, Arp29, H4.76, Fireworks Galaxy
Type: GLX
Constellation: Cep
Coordinates: 20h34m52.33s / +60°09'13.24"
Brightness / Size: v9.0 mag / 11.5x9.8'
Bright spiral galaxy, which is located only 40' southeast of the also evident and rich open cluster NGC6939. Both objects together give a nice view!

B 40mm, 8x, Bortle 4, NELM 6.1, SQM-L 21.1
Fairly faint, round, evenly bright. Less evident with averted vision.

80mm f/6.25, 25x, Bortle 6-, SQM-L 19.5
Roundish, rather faint and less evident brightening.

MODERATE
8" f/6, 37x, Bortle 4, NELM 6.1, SQM-L 21.1
Large, round, faint, somewhat irregular shape. At 100x I could rudimentarily percept the northeastern spiral arm with averted vision. Overall the galaxy appeared slightly mottled.
