M3 (GC)

DSS
© DSS II (red) - 18×18'
Name: M3, NGC5272
Type: GC
Constellation: CVn
Coordinates: 13h42m11.62s / +28°22'38.20"
Brightness / Size: v6.4 mag / 18.0x18.0'
B 40mm, 8x, Bortle 7, NELM 5.0, SQM-L 19.0
Compact with well defined edges. Very bright.

EASY
B 50mm, 7x, Bortle 8, NELM 4.0
Despite of massive light pollution (city & half moon) and large exit pupil of 7mm I could easily see M3 with direct vision as a quite small, but bright nebula.

EASY
80mm f/6.25, 25x, Bortle 7
Apparent with direct vision due to the bright, well defined center. Outer regions much fainter. At 62x the outer regions seemed slightly granulous.

EASY
4.5" f/8, 50x, Bortle 5
At 50x the outer regions appeared granulous, at 100x quite well resolvable.

EASY
120mm f/5, 18x, Bortle 7, NELM 5.0, SQM-L 19.1
Hazy sky, 1/3 moon: At 18x well defined, very bright center. The edge regions appear granular with averted vision. At 75x the edge regions are partly resolved, the cluster itself appears granular. The center is very compact.

EASY
8" f/6, 37x, Bortle 4, NELM 6.0
Extremely bright center. Outer regions granulous. At 150x the cluster was resolvable close to the center, especially the outer regions. The center was still granulous.

M4 (GC)

DSS
© DSS II (red) - 26×26'
Name: M4, NGC6121
Type: GC
Constellation: Sco
Coordinates: 16h23m35.22s / -26°31'32.70"
Brightness / Size: v5.4 mag / 26.0x26.0'
4.5" f/8, 72x, Bortle 6+
Already seen at 28x as very faint brightening with averted vision. At 72x fairly well seen with averted vision, granularity not clearly perceptible. Separated stars were not visible.

MODERATE
8" f/6, 37x, Bortle 3, NELM 6.5, SQM-L 21.6
Relatively large, slight brightening toward the middle with a less distinct center. The outer regions were partially resolved. At 100x the cluster was widely resolvable, whereas the center appeared still diffuse. An evident chain of brighter stars goes through the center. Overall a more loose cluster in comparison to other prominent globular clusters, why the cluster appears a bit fainter.
EASY

Very evident. Round, diffuse with much brighter center.

EASY
4.5" f/8, 28x, Bortle 6+
Very bright, compact center. Glimpsed a few scattered stars at 72x in the edge regions.

EASY
8" f/6, 37x, Bortle 4, SQM-L 21.2
At 37x very well condensed, getting much more fainter towards the edges. The edge regions were partly resolved, otherwise granulous. At 150x many stars visible, also near the center. The cluster appeared almost like an open cluster.

Name: M12, NGC6218
Type: GC
Constellation: Oph
Coordinates: 16h47m14.18s / -01°56'54.70"
Brightness / Size: v6.1 mag / 16.0x16.0'
B 40mm, 8x, Bortle 5, NELM 5.5
Evident. Round, diffuse with brighter center.

EASY
4.5" f/8, 28x, Bortle 6+
Center much brighter than outer regions. At 28x an evident star at the edge of the cluster. Not resolvable. Glimpsed some scattered stars at 100x in the outermost regions, otherwise the cluster seemed more granulous.

EASY
8" f/6, 37x, Bortle 4, SQM-L 21.2
At 37x pretty well condensed, nicely embedded in a group of stars. The cluster appeared already granulous with averted vision and showed an irregular shape. At 150x the edge regions are quite well resolved, the cluster itself appeared irregular. It looked as if an open cluster is in the foreground.

Obvious, relatively large, moderately concentrated.

EASY

EASY
80mm f/6.25, 40x, Bortle 5, SQM-L 20.7
At 40x the edge regions partially resolved. At 90x the cluster was quite well resolved close to the center.

EASY
4.5" f/8, 28x, Bortle 6+
Very bright. At 28x the edge regions appeared granulous, at 100x they could be partially resolved. Scattered stars within the center were visible. Otherwise granular.

EASY
120mm f/5, 18x, Bortle 7, NELM 5.0, SQM-L 19.1
Hazy sky, 1/3 moon: At 18x very bright, diffuse, granular with averted vision. At 75x the edge regions are resolved, whereby the background stays nebulous.

EASY

Brightness / Size: v6.2 mag / 18.0x18.0'
naked eye, Bortle 4+, NELM 6.3+, SQM-L 21.2
I saw a nearly stellar brightening, but this could also be the nearby 6.1 mag star. So I am not sure.

FAILED
B 40mm, 8x, Bortle 4, NELM 6.1, SQM-L 21.0
Evident with direct vision, but almost stellar. Can be easily confused with a star. With averted vision slightly extended. Only the bright, compact center was visible.

EASY
4.5" f/8, 28x, Bortle 7, NELM 4.5
Bright, quite well defined center with fainter outer regions. At 112x the outer regions appeared with averted vision granulous and I could glimpse some single stars.

EASY
8" f/6, 37x, Bortle 4, SQM-L 21.0
SQM-L 20.8: At 37x very bright, compact center. The outer regions appeared granulous with averted vision. At 80x the outer regions are well resolvable, otherwise the cluster appeared more granulous. EASY
8" f/6, 37x, Bortle 5+
Wonderful cluster. At 37x the edge regions are well resolvable, at 133x resolved close to the center. The cluster showed several star patterns, so that the cluster appeared irregular.

Observation from city, whereby the conditions due to cloudy sky are only estimated. At 25x barely visible with averted vision as faint, roundish brightening. At 83x fairly well seen with averted vision. West of the cluster an apparent 9.28m star.

MODERATE
8" f/6, 37x, Bortle 4, SQM-L 21.0
SQM-L 20.7: At 37x evident with averted vision, overall bright, getting much more brighter toward the center. At 150x the edge regions were resolved, otherwise the cluster appeared granulous.
